Collection: Heifer Station

Heifer Station is located on the volcanic basalt slopes of Gaanha Bula – Mount Canobolas, and was once part of a much larger property used by Cobb & Co as a change station for their horse teams along The Escort Way, named so because of the police escorts that would guard deliveries from the goldfields to the West, into the township of Orange.

 

Over the years the property was subdivided into smaller parcels of land and its history all but lost. To preserve our ties to the past, we have retained the name of the property that played a significant role in our local history.

 

Purchased in 2009 and with the vineyard barely visible from overgrown blackberries, the vineyard returned to its former glory to make respectful use of its rich soil and ideal elevation. In close proximity to the region’s highest peak, Heifer Station estate spans 65 acres of red loam soils over limestone and in a wine region where altitude is everything, our vineyard enjoys a near-perfect balance of elevation and sunshine, with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz proving to be the champion varieties of the Heifer Station estate.

 

In 2012 we produced our first vintage and with a farming philosophy that has an emphasis on the plant and soil health, Heifer Station has enjoyed numerous successes – double gold at the Royal Easter Show, the Trophies at both the Orange Wine Show for Shiraz and NSW Shiraz Challenge along with other numerous medals from various national and international wine shows including the prestigious London Wine Show in 2020. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz have proven to be the champion varieties of Heifer Station.

 

The Cellar Door opened in the Old Wool Shed 2016, with the adjoining Funny Farm, gardens and renovation of The Barrel Shed in 2019 proving immensely popular with locals and visitors alike. Heifer Station was awarded Gold in the Wineries, Distilleries & Breweries Category at the 2018 and 2019 NSW Tourism Awards, and Silver at the Australian Tourism Awards in 2021.
