Coming Home With a Big Idea

Hi, I’m Will! I’ve called Orange home since I was six, and like many people, I never really gave much thought to where our food came from—until the 2022 floods hit. Crops were wiped out across the east coast, lettuce disappeared from shelves, and suddenly KFC was using cabbage (!!). It was a wake-up call. I started digging into food security, local farming, and just how powerful it can be to support producers in our own backyard.

After spending a few years living and studying in Sydney, I felt the strong pull to return home. Coming back to Orange, one question kept playing over in my mind: How can we make it easier for people to connect with where their food comes from? The more I learned, the clearer it became—local food isn’t just fresher, it’s better in every way. It lasts longer, tastes better, retains more nutrients, and supports our health, our community, and our planet.

That question—and the passion it sparked—is what led me to create YourMarket. I wanted to build something that made shopping local feel just as easy and convenient as buying from a supermarket, but with all the goodness of knowing your food came from right around the corner.

The Hidden Costs of Supermarket Shopping

Did you know fresh food begins to lose nutrients the moment it’s picked? By the time it hits supermarket shelves—sometimes over a week later—it may have lost up to 90% of its nutritional value. That’s not just a loss for our health—it’s also a hit to our wallet, our environment, and our communities.

Transporting food long distances generates a massive amount of emissions. In Australia alone, food miles create around 6.5 million tonnes of CO₂ each year—about 5.4% of our total national emissions—and cost over $2 billion annually. Then there’s the waste: around 30% of supermarket food gets rejected or thrown away, often because of superficial imperfections or shortened shelf life from long-distance shipping. That waste contributes another 7.6 million tonnes of CO₂, equating to about 10% of Australia’s total greenhouse gas emissions, and costs a staggering $36.6 billion every year across the supply chain.

When you shop locally, you’re not just supporting your neighbours—you’re choosing better. Fresher food means longer shelf life, more flavour, and more nutrients. You're also cutting your carbon footprint and helping create a more sustainable food system. It’s a win for your body, your fridge, your wallet—and the planet.

The Farmers Market, Delivered

We knew shopping local had to be easier. Farmers markets are great—but they’re only once a week, you have to plan around them, and it’s not always possible to visit every producer you want to support. That’s where YourMarket comes in.

We’ve created a regional online marketplace that brings together the best local producers and retailers. You can browse, choose your favourites, and buy from them all in one go. Then we sort the logistics and deliver it straight to your door. Fresh, high-quality, local produce—made simple.

We’ve worked hard to build real relationships with our producers, so you can learn their stories, understand their values, and feel a deeper connection to the food on your plate. It’s like the farmers market, only easier, and just as personal.

Building a Better Local Future

Have we solved all the problems? Not yet! But we’re working on it every day. Our goal is to expand deliveries to every day of the week, grow our range of producers, and even help new ones get started—whether it's a first-time grower with a dream, or a small family farm looking to reach more people.

And it doesn’t stop there. We're committed to giving back. That’s why we’re donating 10% of our net profits to local charities, schools, sporting teams, and community programs. When you shop with us, you're not just buying dinner—you’re building a better future for Orange. Supporting local never felt this good.
