New on YourMarket this month, Tawarri Grove is the highest olive grove in the country at 1100-1200m and a national gold medal winner for its first press extra virgin olive oil.
Situated on the upper slopes of Towac Pinnacle, part of the Canobolas range, Tawarri Grove’s 3000 trees are made up of a number of olive varieties, being Frantoio, Corregiola, Leccino, Arbequina, Coratina and Manzanillo. This combination of olives, accompanied by the touch of snow they receive at their altitude, create well-balanced fruity oils with a peppery finish.
This time last year I first contacted Ros about coming on to YourMarket and she told me their harvest was so poor there was no oil to sell. Olives require a Mediterranean-like environment so the unseasonably cold, wet weather resulted in a shorter growing season, a slower ripening of fruit and a delayed harvest. After nearly a year of work it’s very exciting to able to have Tawarri Grove up on our marketplace, as our #1 purpose is to support local producers like Ros and David and help strengthen our local food community, especially through difficult seasons.
